Brad's Thoughts on Awe

hey guys,
The word "awe" generates a couple of thoughts in my mind: the first is the CIRCUS- or in general, feats of daring that cause us to drop our jaw in amazement. "Awe" inspiring = "jaw" dropping. Acrobats, stuntmen, amazing animal acts, amazing people or characters (ie freaks").
Magic acts and illusionists as well. None of that applies so much to christmas.

But the second thing is more relevant. Perhaps the most awe inspiring thought i can concieve of is the magnitude (size) of God's creation. Let me see if i can paint a picture...
Astronomy tells us that our sun is 1 of about 100 billion stars in our milky way galaxy. The closest one of these stars to us is so far away that it would take 162,000 years to travel to at space shuttle speeds. Astronomy also tells us that our galaxy is only one of over 100 billion other galaxies in the observable universe, each with as many stars as distantly spaced.
Physics tells us that our universe is a space-time continuum that must have had a beginning. It also implies that the power (or Being) that created the universe must exist outside of that system (outside of space and time).
But the Bible tells us that the all powerful Being that created this vast universe actually entered His creation- entered into space and time- over 2,000 years ago (John 1:14) in the form of a working-class Jewish carpenter that was born in a cave/stable surrounded by stinking animals
and a meager audience.
The baby that the magi looked upon that evening was none other than the creator of the entire universe come to live among us and actually die on our behalf because He saw value in us- mere "microbes" in the cosmic order.
The baby in that filthy manger was the source of all creation in physical form.
That, to me, puts the whole thing in perspective.
peace out,
brad
