Baby awe
This awe/baby context takes me back to the birthing room just after a newborn has made its debut. I took the girls Sunday up to see Dusty and Kari Anderson and their freshly-bathed little Natalie and we got a firsthand view of this...
All the family gathers around and takes turn holding the newborn and everybody's beaming. Big, burly men who pride themselves in their lack of sensitivity and emotion begin talking gibberish to a little person who has no clue what they’re saying. What's happening in that moment? Adoration. We’re adoring this little bundle of screaming, squinting sunburned flesh. It’s a worship environment; we’re in awe.
We humans naturally want to release this pent-up honor/adoration. By nature, we love [and are designed] to worship. Unfortunatley, we often miss it and worship the wrong people/places/things.
The Magi made a calculated [and potentially life-thretening] choice to worship baby Jesus and they got it right.
