Let me start by clearing something up.
[RANT ahead...]
When I use the term "Xmas" to refer to "Christmas" I am not being secular, non-Christian, or demonic. Here's why...let me refer you to the wikipedia article...
The word "Christ" and its compounds, including "Christmas", have been abbreviated for at least the past 1,000 years, long before the modern "Xmas" was commonly used. "Christ" was often written as "XP" or "Xt"; there are references in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as far back as 1021 AD. This X and P arose as the uppercase forms of the Greek letters χ and ρ), used in ancient abbreviations for Χριστος (Greek for "Christ") (see Labarum), and are still widely seen in many Eastern Orthodox icons depicting Jesus Christ.
But even if I did want to "take the Christ" out of Christmas, there is something you should know....
CHRISTMAS WAS FOUNDED ON A PAGAN HOLIDAY!
[In reality..."Some scholars note that the event described in Luke of the shepherds' activities suggest a spring or summer date for Jesus' birth.[9] Scholars speculate that the date of the celebration was moved by the Roman Catholic Church in an attempt to replace the Roman festival of Saturnalia (or more specifically, the birthday of the pagan god Sol Invictus)."]
The celebration we know as Christmas was moved to December 25 in the 4th Century by the Catholic Church, so that pagan's couldn't have all the fun. So I guess I'm "taking the Christ" out of something that didn't really have Christ in it to begin with.
[RANT concluded]
We're heading to Yoakum tomorrow after our 2 morning services at Grace. We'll be back on Thursday, in time for our homestudy that afternoon. I expect internet access/blogging time to be minimal, so....
MERRY XMAS!
