Why worship?
Why is worship so important?
Worship is a lot of things. Rather, worship can be described with many different things [images/relationships/actions/words], but worship is only one thing. In it's purest form, it is unfiltered communion with God.
Now, I have to stop here a second, because my brain is telling me worship is a couple of more things, in it's purest form. Worship is also surrender. Worship is also revelation and response. Maybe I can elaborate on those at another time. Remind me.
Communion with God...that is the pure worship we're talking about right now. In the presence of God. A time/place/point of dwelling with God in dynamic relation. He speaks, we listen and respond w/obedience. [So I guess communion & revelation and response are closely knit together.]
Communion is important [and thus worship is important] because it is the first and last thing mentioned in the Bible. After creation, God had communion with Adam & Eve in the garden. It was originally unfiltered, unhindered fellowship and relationship. That is as pure as worship gets. That is one of the first things mentioned in the Bible. In Revelation, all the Redeemed ones eternally worship the Lamb who was slain, that men might be purchased from every nation and tribe. That is also unfiltered and unhindered communion in the presence of God. That is one of the last things the Bible mentions.
So the beginning and end of our story [the story of creation] is centered on the idea of communion with God. This is why I think worship is so important.
